ABOUT US

The publishing industry has never been more competitive. More people aspire to get published than ever before, and yet we’re dealing with the threats of falling literacy rates, lower attention spans and AI. Publishers read c.1,000 submissions every year, and agents read c.5,000. Every submission gets only ONE chance to grab attention and be considered. For self-published authors, there are limited avenues to seek collaboration.

However, writing is a solitary activity. It is easy to lose objectivity after spending months/years on something, and available feedback is not comprehensive, if at all. Even when equipped with the best tips, tools and practices, there is a point in the writing process when you just want someone experienced to read your draft, understand your motivations, and frankly discuss improvements, or brainstorm a constructive way forward.

Margins Editorial seeks to make an impact where you need it the most. You could be at any stage of your publishing career, writing any form of creative prose: a novel, a collection of short stories, a memoir or narrative non-fiction. Your manuscript could be finished or unfinished. You could want to publish traditionally or by yourself.

Under-represented voices such as queer and global majority stories are welcome. We will treat your work with the utmost respect and confidentiality.

Our services draw on Santanu Bhattacharya’s extensive experience of publishing two prize-winning literary novels for a global readership, working with agents and editors in the industry, and teaching and reviewing in-progress work of writers. You know exactly who you are working with, and what strengths and skills they bring.
